Synergy between Sulfonic Functions and Ru Nanoparticles Supported on Activated Carbon for the Valorization of Cellulose into Sorbitol

چکیده

The production of sorbitol from biomass, and especially its cellulosic component, has been studied as a sustainable method for producing platform molecules. Because it requires two steps, namely, hydrolysis hydrogenation, bifunctional materials are required catalysts this transformation. This study reports catalyst composed sulfonic functions grafted onto carbon support the step RuO2 nanoparticles hydrogenation step. As sulfur can easily poison Ru, synthetic optimization is necessary to obtain an efficient that surpasses mere Ru/C catalyst. Kinetic studies highlight better activity compared reference monofunctional catalysts. Besides being active in reactions, also have role avoiding degradation produced. recyclability superior one.

Polyoxometalate-supported ruthenium nanoparticles as bifunctional heterogeneous catalysts for the conversions of cellobiose and cellulose into sorbitol under mild conditions.

Ru nanoparticles loaded on a Keggin-type polyoxometalate (Cs(3)PW(12)O(40)), which did not possess strong intrinsic acidity, efficiently catalysed the conversions of cellobiose and cellulose into sorbitol in water medium in H(2) at ≤433 K. The Brønsted acid sites generated in situ from H(2) have been demonstrated to play a key role in the formation of sorbitol.
